The 1st (or) Kings Dragoon Guards serving in British North America 1838-1844
Up to 1838 The 1st (or) Kings Dragoon Guards had campaigned no further afield than Southern or Northern Europe and then only for a brief periods. In 1837 trouble flared up among the French in Canada and the Government had become so worried by these risings that a detachment of Regular Cavalry was despatched to reinforce the Infantry there and in 1838 three Squadrons of the 1st (or) Kings Dragoon Guards, accompanied by 270 horses, and the 7th Hussars disembarked at Quebec.
