Although the first and major part of the uprising had been suppressed there still remained the exhausting, if unspectacular duty of rounding up scattered rebel bands who posed a treat both near Montreal and around St Johns in New Brunswick.

In these very remote, rugged and wooded parts of Canada the dissidents could easily slip across the border into The United States, so the Cavalry was always on the move. Their task being even more difficult by the onset of winter conditions. After the rising had finally been quelled, with very little loss of life. A tense situation continued and the Kings Dragoon Guards were retained in Canada for more than four years.
